Domain Registration
Select a Public or Private Domain Registration
There are two types of domain name registration - public and private. The Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), the international non-profit governing body for domain names, requires each Registrar to maintain a publicly accessible “WHOIS” database displaying all contact information for all domain names registered.
How that information is or is not displayed is what separates public from private domain registrations.
- Public Domain Registration: This means that when your domain is registered your name, address, email address and phone number are made available to anyone that wants to see them. Your personal information is available 24 hours a day to anyone online.
- A Private Domain Registration puts a proxy name on your domain so their information is public, not yours. You can still cancel, sell, renew, or transfer your domain at any time and retain all other benefits of your domain registration.
